Day 1: Skiing Hood and Hiking to Waterfalls

July 18 2012 BY Keely

What a fantastic first day of camp! The conditions were a tad windy this morning, but it was a perfect day for free skiing and drills. As I said yesterday the return rate of girls is incredible. I believe 20 out of the 22 who attended last year are either in this session or session 2. It’s wonderful to have them back at Hood and to witness their improvement from last year. We have a mixture of returnees and new campers in this session.

Today we had the camp structured so each of the 5 training groups could cycle through each coach.  Jess, Hitchy, Libby and Hailey all bring insane enthusiasm, knowledge and experience to this camp. I love being able to work with my best friends and past teammates. Additionally, I cannot express to the girls enough how fortunate they are to be coached by these women. They are simply the very best.

After skiing we ventured to the Tamanawas waterfall. The girls enjoyed the hike and got to play in the waterfall. And to top the day off we came back to the Academy house to my mom’s amazing chicken and mashed potatoes!  The girls also got their custom camp Buffs and t-shirts tonight. Christmas in July. We are looking sharp and ready for another day of shredding on Hood.

Funny tid bit from the day: A few of the girls decided to make “The Real Fan Page of Jessica Kelley.” Check out the link to Coach Kelley’s new fan page and make sure to read the About: and ‘like’ her page!

Stay tuned…~Keely~
