Interested in learning ski mountaineering skills? This camp is for you! This camp will include an all-female professional guide team and education on ski mountaineering fundamentals and steep skiing skills including usage of important ski mountaineering gear.

Girls signing up for this trip should be in good physical condition and have an interest in learning new skills in the mountains. This camp will give you and introduction to skills to ski tour efficiently and safely, move as a team in the mountains, use your gear for appropriate terrain, and essential outdoor leadership skills!

We will be based out of Government Camp, OR for this camp!

THIS CAMP INCLUDES

Lodging, transportation, three delicious meals a day.
Use of Blizzard Demo Skis with Marker Kingpin Bindings, skins, and ski crampons (our demo skis are 164cm, make sure this size is right for you. If it is not please rent skis & ski crampons prior to camp).
Climbing Skins for Blizzard Skis.
Guiding from an all female professional team.

Itinerary

Day 1: Airport Pickup / Orientation

Day 1: Arrival Day

4:00pm Camper arrival to base in Government Camp, OR
- If flying please arrive between 10:00am to 1:00pm. Please email lindsay@keelyscamp.com prior to purchasing your flight.
- If you are outside of our flight windows please arrange your own transportation to Government Camp.
4:00pm – 5:00pm Introduction and Camp Goals
- Introduction Games
- Camp Goals
  - Introduction to ski touring gear
    - Learn to use/become familiar with touring bindings, skins, skis.
    - Learn to use/become familiar with technical gear (boot crampons, ski crampons).
    - Gain a basic understanding/familiarity with avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe.
  - Learn the basics of skinning technique and summer touring above the lifts at Mt. Hood.
  - During this camp we will tour above the lifts of Mt. Hood but will NOT make a summit attempt.

5:30pm Dinner
6:30pm Basic gear check, overview on how ski touring bindings work, go over plan for day 2.

Day 2: Ski Tour and School Day (Intro to Sharps)

5:45 am Breakfast
6:15am Depart for Skiing
7:00am Load Lifts
- Trailhead checks
- Uphill travel techniques
- Introduction to sharps (ski crampons, boot crampons, ice axe)
- Steep skiing techniques
2pm Debrief / Review day
3:30pm Intro to knots
5:30pm Dinner
6:30 pm Terrain discussion & Go over Plan for following day

Day 3: Ski Tour and Rope Skills

5:45am Breakfast
6:15am Depart for Mountain
7:00am Load Lifts.
- Review / use skills from previous day
- Ski touring
- Intro to rope skills (basics of rope travel, crevasse rescue, lowers)

- 2:30pm Debrief/ Review the day
- 3:30 pm Rope skills continued
- 5:30pm Dinner
- 6:30pm Tour plan (girls lead!) for the following day

Day 4: Touring on Mt. Hood

5:45am Breakfast
6:15am Depart for Mountain
7:00am Load Lifts.
Utilize skills from previous days and go on a ski tour above the ski area led by the girls.
2pm Return to Base of Ski Area
3:30pm Debrief and Camp Wrap up!
5:30pm Dinner

If you are flying to camp please follow our flight windows. If you are unreasonably outside our flight windows please organize transportation for your daughter to Government Camp. Thank you for understanding!

Arrivals on June 26th

Please arrival into Portland International Airport (PDX) between 10:00am – 1:00pm.

Departures on June 30th

Please depart PDX between 8:00am – 12:00pm.

Will there be lodging & transportation provided?

Campers will stay in Government Camp, OR. Govy is a short 15-20 minute drive away from the base of Mt. Hood and Timberline Ski Area. This camp provides transportation, lodging, and three delicious meals per day!

Will food be provided?

We will provide three delicious meals per day. If you have dietary requests or food allergies we are happy to accommodate! During your registration please communicate any food allergies or restrictions your daughter has.

What if I don’t have ski touring gear?

Please email lindsay@keelyscamp.com if you have any questions on, equipment, rental gear prices, or any other gear questions.

Keely’s Camp is partnered with Blizzard Skis which are available for demo at no cost (skins included). If your daughter likes the backcountry set up they will be available for sale at the end of the camp. Please let us know if you would like to demo Blizzard skis ahead prior to the start of camp.

Important note – Keely’s Camp Blizzard Zero G demo ski specs are all 164cm and 95w. Please rent your own skis if this size doesn’t work for you.

Backcountry ski boots are not included in our demo setups. Please rent or buy backcountry boots with tech soles if you plan to use our demo setup. These boots should be compatible with Marker King Pin bindings.

Girls who need to rent technical gear will have the option to do so through Timberline Mountain Guides. Keely’s Camp will send out an email to girls once they have registered for camp about the gear rental options. Please feel free to reach out to lindsay@keelyscamp.com if you have any questions on rental gear prices or any other gear questions. Please note Timberline Mountain Guides does not rent ski touring boots.

Is my daughter ready for this camp?

Your daughter should be able to ski black diamond terrain and be in good physical shape for this camp i.e. hike around 2,000 feet per day with a backpack in outdoor elements. Please email Lindsay at lindsay@keelyscamp.com about ability questions.
