Keely’s Camp moves to a Summer 2020 Mt. Hood Day Camp

Thank you all again for your patience as we made a plan for safely running our 2020 Mt. Hood Summer Ski Racing Camps. Your thorough and thoughtful responses to last week’s Summer Race Camp Survey hugely helped us in moving forward with a plan for making our camps on Mt. Hood happen this summer!

Because athletes travel to our Mt. Hood Summer Ski Racing Camps from all over the U.S. and Canada, we feel there are unfortunately too many safety concerns involved with hosting an overnight race camp at Mt. Hood this summer. The necessity for shared lodging, food, and transportation in the overnight camp model would risk the health and safety of our campers, coaches, and the families we all will return to after camp.

*** For these reasons, we have decided to adapt our 2020 Mt. Hood Summer Ski Racing Camps to a DAY CAMP MODEL.***

What is the updated 2020 Mt. Hood Ski Racing Day Camp Schedule?
Session 1: July 2nd – 7th, 2020
Session 2: July 9th – 14th, 2020
Session 3:  July 16th – 21st, 2020

For: All Ages. *Due to COVID-19 we will be requiring that all campers be able to function independently (i.e. carry their own equipment, load and unload chairlift alone, respect physical distancing guidelines, and be able to function independently at training without the help of an adult). If you do not think your daughter will be able to function independently this summer, the day camp is not a good fit for your daughter at this time.

Campers will be put in age appropriate ski groups on the mountain. Each session will be six consecutive days of skiing, with the first date of each session being the first day on snow.

Expect an email on May 25th, 2020 with more details on how this camp will run. We have been in contact with Timberline Ski Area and have been told that we will receive more information on summer operations early next week. We appreciate your patience.

When will registration open for the Mt. Hood Ski Racing Day Camp?
Look out for our newsletter with a link to Day Camp Registration Opening on May 25th, 2020. Because of COVID-19 please know that our camper numbers on Mt. Hood will be limited this summer. We will be capping registration for our Day Camp based on Timberline’s protocols.

Price change: we will have the price difference information for you when we send the link to registration on May 25th.

How will this Mt. Hood Ski Racing Day Camp Model work?
Food: Each family will be responsible for providing all of their own food for athletes during our Mt. Hood Ski Racing Day Camp. There are large grocery stores in Sandy, Hood River, and Portland and smaller stores in Government Camp and Welches. We will be sure to keep you in the loop as we get updates on restaurants’ guidelines for serving food in the area.

Lodging: Government Camp is the closest town to the Timberline Ski Area. We are working with local accommodations to block rooms for families. More information will come with our Day Camp Registration email on May 25th, 2020.

Travel: Each family will be responsible for providing all of their own transportation. You will need to have transportation for your athlete to and from the Timberline Ski Area each day. If you are able to drive to camp this summer, driving is what we recommend.

Skiing:  Timberline Ski Area had a Phase 1 opening today, May 15th. We will follow COVID-19 protocols in association with Timberline Ski Area and the Centers for Disease Control. We will keep you updated on the specifics of these protocols as we hear more from Timberline Ski Area throughout their Phase 1 opening.

I’m already registered for the 2020 Mt. Hood Ski Racing Camps, will I need to re-register my daughter for the 2020 Mt. Hood Ski Racing Day Camp?
Yes. Due to the schedule change we will need families to re-register for camp to let us know which session you choose to attend. However, your payment will rollover and you will receive a refund for the difference in price.

What if our family cannot make this Mt. Hood Ski Racing Day Camp work this summer?
We are as disappointed as you are that we cannot not run our usual Overnight Camp Model at Mt. Hood this summer and we understand that this Day Camp Model will not work for all of the families who are already registered for camp. For those of you who cannot accommodate this change to a Day Camp Model for race camp this summer, you have two options (as specified in our previous COVID-19 updates and on our website):

Option 1) Rollover your payment into a future Keely’s Camp. You will be charged the difference in the cost of the future camp if prices vary. This will guarantee your daughter’s spot in the future camp. Check out all of our camps at keelyscamp.com (whether registration is currently open or not) and then email us at keely@keelyscamp.com with the camp you are interested in attending for more information.
Option 2) Receive a payment refund (minus the $100 software service fee specified in our refund policies). The regular 30 day cancellation window will not apply to the 2020 Summer Race Camps. If you choose to cancel within 30 days of camp, you will still get a payment refund (minus the $100 software service fee). Please let us know ASAP if this is the option you choose to pursue by emailing keely@keelyscamp.com.

We want to accommodate your family’s needs with regard to refunds and rollovers. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns you have.

Thank you again for your continued patience and understanding during these unprecedented times! STAY TUNED AND STAY HEALTHY!
