4 Female Skiers That Inspire Us Right Now!
Fandom is an essential and fun part of the ski industry- playing a key role in the success of ski movies, professional athletes, and the contagious excitement resulting from watching someone shred. Being a fan of other skiers makes me feel creative, capable, and motivated to grow as a skier. By watching world cup ski racing footage and big mountain films detailing talented female athletes, I began to notice the subtle techniques and tricks these skiers used- and started experimenting with incorporating them into my own skiing. Perhaps more importantly, it taught me that there are many ways to be a good skier and discovering your own style is essential to the contagious confidence these women possess in their skiing. One of our values here at Keely’s Camp is to support and build up female athletes whenever possible, so I am jazzed to share four women in skiing that inspire and fire me up to rip even harder!
Katie Hensien
Katie is one of those people that you can’t help but cheer on. At 25, Katie is an olympian and veteran member of the US Ski Team. The best phrase I can use to describe her skiing is forceful yet graceful. With impressive edge angle control and a scrappy ability to adapt to changing tempos, it is no wonder she is so fast and fun to watch. Katie was a camper at the first ever Keely’s Camp Ski Racing Camp on Mt. Hood, Oregon and continues to be involved as a sponsored athlete and coach. Stay tuned to watch Katie race next week at World Cup Finals in Sun Valley, ID!
Jaelin Kauf
Hot take, watching moguls skiers will make you a better ski racer! After watching US Mogul Team member Jaelin Kauf for 30 seconds, you’ll notice her impressive absorption of terrain, her flawless upper and lower body separation, and of course- her precise capabilities in the air. Many ski racers struggle to maintain speed when the course becomes rutted, bumpy, or inconsistent. While speed is only a portion the score in moguls skiing, watching Jaelin navigate bumps with tons of speed by finding the sweet spot of engagement in her legs. I would encourage any ski racer reading to get a few friends together and check out Jaelin Kauai’s mogul abilities!
Mali Noyes
Mali Noyes gives me ski FOMO in the best possible way. A professional skier, ultra trail runner, and nurse local to Salt Lake City, Utah- Mali has a knack for picking aesthetic lines- and good snow! Her content online is educational, lighthearted, and multidimensional. As a non-morning person- it is especially impressive that she makes the dawn patrol routine seem so appealing and fun. She has an accolade of impressive descents and inspires me to prioritize humility, fun glasses, and continued education. Check out her Instagram HERE!
Hadley Hammer
Growing up in Jackson Hole, it was a known fact that the Hammer family ripped. In a TGR obsessed culture, Hadley was one of the first and only female skiers with roots in both ski racing and free-ride skiing I admired as a kid. Hadley is the kind of skier that makes you wonder what she knows that you don’t. Her skiing is quiet (it really speaks for itself) yet dynamic and high output. I love how Hadley seamlessly blends skiing with self expression- as she also does on her fashion blog called TOGS. Whenever I am feeling unsure about my place in the ski industry, looking at Hadley’s content reminds me that there is so much space for all of us to excel!
