Our 2024 Pre-Season Ski Racing Checklist

September is here and we can’t help but think about ski season here at Keely’s Camp! If you are anything like us, fall is one of the our favorite seasons of the year getting all of your gear ready, planning your race schedule, meeting your coaches, and starting dryland training. Here are four things on our pre-season ski racing checklist this year:

1. Dial In Your Gear!

Finding the gear that is best for you can be a process, but we are here to help you keep it simple. Start by taking inventory of what you have before attending your local gear night- we can’t help but get excited for the season when trying on ski clothes. Approaching gear night with a list of what you need is essential when the options become overwhelming. Check out our blog: An Expert’s Approach To Your Local Gear Night for more advice!

2. Drill Planning and Ski Journaling

Your ski journal is another great resource for information when researching new gear. Go back and read

about what you liked and what you didn’t. Include a section for gear comments in your ski journal this season if you don’t have one, it will be super helpful for future seasons.

You can improve your skiing without before getting on snow this season! Make time this fall to sit down with your ski journal to set goals and make a pre-season plan. Create a list of drills you want to do when you get on snow and why. Understanding the mechanical and conceptual fundamentals of drills will make you a better skier. Check out our list of early season drills we love for drill ideas!

Our Big Sky Ski Racing Camp for Girls is a unique opportunity to get high volume on early season drills because the resort is not open to the public during the camp dates. Meaning, athletes get exclusive access to more on hill space for drills, focused free skiing, and training.

3. Fall Sports and Dryland

We love hearing about our campers passion for other sports throughout the year. Playing another sport and finding ways to stay active when not on snow is so fun and will help you move mountains this season! If you don’t play another sport, attend your ski team’s fall dryland training. Check out our dryland guide for some fun activities you could do this fall!

4. Team Bonding

Ski racing friendships can last a lifetime! Last fall a group of our campers located in Jackson Hole, WY hosted a pre-season girls hype event for all of the U12 girls on the Jackson Hole Ski & Snowboard Club team. The event consisted of team building games, guest speakers, cupcake decorating, and having the opportunity to meet local female coaches. It was so fun and created such a supportive team culture before the season started.

Take it one step further and attend our only fall overnight camp in Big Sky, MT to meet new friends who love ski racing just as much as you!
